Layoffs!! Canada Post Has Been Contacting Members and Informing Them They Are Now Laid Off. Now What?

Some members are receiving calls from Canada Post informing them that they are being laid off due to a shortage of work.

If you receive one of these calls be sure to do the following:

  • take note of the date, time of the call, and who called you.
  • Request a copy of the written Notice Off Layoff/ Notice of Termination and/or pay in lieu of notice, plus a copy of the Statement of Benefits Form (LAB1214). The Canada Labour Code states that employers are to notify employees of a layoff in writing so be sure to ask them for this.
  • Request a copy of your Record of Employment (ROE). If you are laid off you may be eligible for employment insurance and will need this.
  • File a grievance on the layoff. Please contact Cheryllynn at 204-942-6323 ext. 3 to arrange a time to come into the local office to file a grievance.

If you have received one of these calls you are still eligible for strike pay providing you are picketing or performing other strike related duties.
